Joni’s Mission
seeks to nurture and heal our planet, starting at the community level, by offering landscape design services and beyond for organizations in need.
To achieve real, effective change, we must begin in our own backyards to protect and defend air quality, healthy soils, and abundant wildlife. At Joni Appleseed, organizations with a need for additional or improved public green space can find the guidance and support needed to start their project, whether it be a habitat, butterfly, native, bog, rain, wetland, xeric, or memorial garden or gardens that offer sanctuary or outdoor play space.
Through the power and support of our members and sponsors, select organizations may also find the necessary funding to create their project through Joni Appleseed. Alternatively, organizations may use Joni Appleseed’s complimentary landscape designs to procure external grant funding, or they may simply request volunteer support to see their project to fruition.
If your organization can benefit from our services, please complete an application to be considered for our next campaign. And if you would like to feel the power of making a tangible improvement in our environment, join us! Act now by donating to Joni, becoming a member of Joni’s Giving Tree, volunteering with Joni, or starting a chapter of Joni Appleseed in your own community.
About Us
President
After almost 12 years of running Flora Landscapes, Sheri found herself ready to do more for both the environment and the community. After years of watching her local government consistently devalue heritage trees and public green space, she decided to start Joni Appleseed so that local horticulturalists, businesses, and supporters could take action in their own community and see tangible improvements to the environment.
Sheri is currently striving to find spaces in her community and beyond where she can make a difference.
Vice President
After being inspired by the service work at Hoggard High School with the National Honors Society and Beta Club, Naomi sought additional ways to improve her community. She began managing Joni Appleseed’s social media in the summer of 2022 and has been heavily involved in other fundraising operations since then. Her most recent project was planning and executing the fundraiser campaign “Flowers by Joni Appleseed” to support greenspace development at Seeds of Healing, an HIV awareness organization.
Beyond her work at Joni Appleseed, Naomi has also volunteered at the New Hanover County Arboretum Ability Garden by pulling weeds, potting plants, watering the greenhouse, and organizing the weekly plant sale. She has project managed a landscape installation project for a Habitat for Humanity home. She has also guided children with special needs through horticultural therapy.
Naomi loves knowing she is helping those around her and plans to continue volunteering to benefit others. A natural leader with strong business skills, Naomi is a strong asset in Joni Appleseed’s operations. Whether recruiting volunteers for service work, assisting in event planning, or getting dirty in Joni’s Garden, she is always ready to serve her community.
